SwiftPaws Pro Series FAQ & Comparison Guide

SwiftPaws Pro Series

Frequently Asked Questions & Product Comparison Guide

⚙️ Product Comparison & Use Cases

What is the main difference between the Pro Sport and the Pro Alpha?
The primary difference is power, speed, and capacity. The Pro Alpha features a larger 10-amp motor, offering top speeds of over 60 mph and a maximum continuous course length of up to about 600 yards. The Pro Sport features a 7.5-amp motor, offering top speeds of 45–46 mph and a maximum course length of up to about 300 yards. The Pro Alpha also delivers higher torque to handle these longer distances.
Which model is right for my specific needs?
Choose your machine based on the scale and intent of your operations:
  • Choose the Pro Alpha if: You are hosting official, high-volume competitive trials and tests (such as AKC Fast CAT, UKC Precision Coursing, or CPE Drag Race) that feature long-distance layouts up to 600 yards and require maximum racing speeds.
  • Choose the Pro Sport if: You are a dog trainer, doggy daycare owner, or community organizer running smaller try-it courses, demo courses, or short competitive events. For example, on a short 50-yard layout like the UKC Dash, the Pro Sport will work beautifully and the Alpha would actually be overkill. The Sport is also the more budget-friendly choice.
Will grass height or course setup affect the machine's speed?
Yes. The listed top speeds are realistic guidelines, but real-world physical resistance directly acts on the system. Taller grass, exceptionally long courses, and tighter line tension increase the load on the motor, causing it to work harder and run slower. You can actually hear the acoustic shift and hear the motor straining when it's bogged down. For example, pulling an exceptionally large course layout with the Pro Alpha can reduce its top speed to roughly 50 mph instead of its 60+ mph maximum.

🛠️ Build Quality & Hardware

How are the Pro Series machines constructed?
Both the Pro Sport and Pro Alpha are engineered identically with ultra-rugged, solid aluminum housing designed to last a lifetime. In early versions, SwiftPaws built these machines with plastic housings, but discovered that the heavy-duty internal mechanics were consistently outliving the plastic exteriors. Upgrading to solid aluminum housings and reinforced connectors guarantees the structural integrity matches the long life span of the motors. SwiftPaws still has original professional machines from 2012 running successfully out in the field.
What components do the Sport and Alpha share?
Aside from their specific motors, the internal design architectures are mostly identical. Both machines share:
  • The exact same heavy-duty drive wheel mechanism (accessible by pulling the front locking pin and lifting the top open).
  • The exact same high-durability internal bearings.
  • The same protective structural shields.
  • The same chassis layout, including the control handle plug interface and separate power line connection.
I hear a fan running as soon as I plug the machine in. Is that normal?
Yes, this is completely normal. Both units feature an integrated internal exhaust fan that starts continuously pulling fresh air into the housing and venting warm air out the moment the unit is connected to live power. The hum you hear when plugging it in is strictly the exhaust fan keeping the electronic housing cool, not the motor running. The motors have their own independent internal cooling fans, but those only spin when you are actively pulling the controller trigger.

Power & Controller Operation

What kind of power source do these machines require?
Both professional units operate on standard 110-volt AC utility power. You can safely power them by plugging directly into standard home wall outlets, heavy-duty extension cords, or a clean portable generator setup on the field.
How can I ensure my power source is safe for the machine?
Both units feature a built-in digital volt-amp-hertz diagnostic meter on the exterior chassis. This display lets you monitor the quality and stability of your incoming power source in real-time, preventing accidental operational damage to your internal motor caused by weak or faulty field generators or unstable drop cords.
How does the speed controller work?
Both models utilize an identical, high-reliability speed control handle built with an industrial trigger mechanism sourced directly from professional-grade power drills. The trigger operates just like a gas pedal—the deeper you squeeze, the faster the machine spins, providing incredibly granular control over the lure's movement.
Can I switch running directions on the fly?
Yes, but with an intentional safety lock. The controller features a mechanical directional toggle switch. For equipment protection and line safety, this switch physically locks out while the motor is receiving power. To reverse direction, you must completely let off the trigger ("gas pedal") to stop the motor, flip the directional toggle, and re-engage the trigger. This flow can be done very quickly and completely one-handed with a small amount of practice.
Can I use a Pro Alpha controller on a Pro Sport machine (or vice versa)?
No. Do not interchange the controllers under any circumstances. Even though the external trigger handles look identical, the Pro Sport and Pro Alpha are wired differently internally. To prevent cross-contamination or damage on-site, the Pro Alpha handle is explicitly branded "Pro Alpha," and the Sport controller handle is branded with just the "SwiftPaws" logo. Always double-check your labels before plugging in.

📦 Kits, Pulleys, & Accessories

What comes included in a Pro Series kit?
Both the Pro Sport and Pro Alpha bundles are sold as all-inclusive, 100% turnkey kits. Your package contains the drive machine, the dedicated speed control handle, the internal drive wheel assembly, a starter pack of orange polyurethane drive wheel grip bands (along with replacement source links), a complete set of heavy-duty Pro-Grade Pulleys, and a bonus starter pack of Home Series pulleys.
What is the difference between the Pro Pulleys and Home Series Pulleys?
The differences are based on material engineering and structural weight classes:
  • Pro-Grade Pulleys: Heavy-duty commercial units injection-molded from glass-filled plastic to resist severe hot and cold climate distortions. They feature a robust hinged-open design, dual internal sealed bearings, and a large 4-inch wheel profile that elevates the line higher off the turf and rotates at lower RPMs to eliminate high-speed line wear.
  • Home Series Pulleys: Lightweight, non-hinged compact units molded out of slick unreinforced nylon (PA6). They rely on a single internal bearing layout and guide the running line much closer to the ground level.
Can I use both types of pulleys at the same time?
Absolutely. You can mix and match Pro-Grade and Home Series pulleys within the exact same field setup layout depending on your tracking needs. For example, you can deploy the ultra-rugged Pro Pulleys on the highest-stress corner turns, and use the lighter Home Series pulleys to stabilize line tracking along shorter straightaways or low-load sections of a demo track.
Are the pulleys safe if a dog accidentally runs into or steps on them?
Yes, safety is fully integrated into the design. All SwiftPaws pulleys utilize an entirely enclosed safety housing, making it physically impossible for an eager pet's paw or toe to get caught inside the spinning guide wheel. Furthermore, every pulley is engineered to anchor via a flexible safety tether system. If a running dog accidentally collides with a pulley unit, the flexible tether allows the entire housing to safely pivot, yield, and swing completely out of the way. Always anchor your field pulleys using the provided flexible tethers.

🇺🇸 Manufacturing, Warranty, & Support

Where are SwiftPaws Pro machines made?
Every single Pro Series machine is built 100% in the United States. The raw heavy-duty aluminum structural housings are machined by local suppliers, and the final mechanical assembly, wiring calibration, and quality-assurance inspections are completed by hand right inside the SwiftPaws warehouse team's hometown facility.
What kind of warranty comes with the Pro Series?
Both the Pro Sport and Pro Alpha include a comprehensive 1-year manufacturer’s warranty covering any defects. Additionally, your purchase instantly upgrades you to priority commercial support status, giving you access to a direct phone line and dedicated support email to reach the team immediately when field issues pop up.
What happens if my machine breaks after the 1-year warranty expires?
SwiftPaws protects your community investment with a unique Lifetime Cost-Price Repair Program. Once your one-year warranty ends, if a component breaks—even due to accidental user error, like running over your hand controller with a truck or trailer on the field—SwiftPaws will fix or rebuild your components entirely at their internal manufacturing cost.
